god I will always reblog this this is so powerful

i really love this because in the first picture he is just an innocent young man. in the middle, you can see the sadness in his eyes about either others being killed before him or him killing others to protect our country. in the last picture, you dont see that same sadness in his eyes anymore as the one that was in the middle. theres still sadness there but its replaced by growth and wisdom. he learned so much from the war, whether that is good or bad, i do not know. but hey, this is what i just think about the picture.

After an engaging conversation with my beloved AP English Language Instructor, Ms. Shena Anderson, about my future, my aspirations and purpose in life, I came to realize the shocking truth: I have been brainwashed, brainwashed by the capitalist society that is the United States of America. Instead of falling victim to ignorance and stupidity like the rest of “us teens”, I have fallen victim to the American Dream; I have fallen victim to an ideology that emphasizes purely capitalist gain and financial prosperity.

The root of the American Dream lies in money, and as cliche as it may sound, money is the true root of all evil. Frighteningly enough, that evil has manifested itself within me. I don’t just like and value money- I absolutely love it, and that is what terrifies me: I have become a proponent of the evil and insatiable hunger that is. At times I’m taken aback when I contemplate the great lengths to which I’ve gone all for the sake of the acquisition of money;the lust for monetary gain is the true root of all evil.

In terms of my dreams and aspirations, instead of pursuing my true passion, I have beguiled myself into believing that financial prosperity constitutes my sole purpose in life. Au contraire, as that can never be.

It amazes me how, as children, our youthful ignorance and innocence enable us to conjure up these seemingly outlandish dreams and occupations that reflect our true nature and desires. Dreams and occupations that are all too quickly abandoned for the sake of marketability.

Have we forgotten the essential dogma of life and personal fulfillment?

I refuse to continue living for the dollar bill, from this day forward, I must live for Malik- the curse must be broken. There are opportunities in every challenge and in efforts to emphasize personal development, I must learn from my plight, no matter how arduous it may appear. The curse must be broken.
